The course focuses on three main areas under natural resource and environmental management: (1) issues and challenges, (2) assessment tool, policies and regulations and (3) sustainable management. In order to provide hands-on flavor and to relate issues with theoretical tools, the students will also be exposed to the understanding and experiences using case studies of natural resources degradation and conservation in Malaysia and other countries.
The course begins with an introduction of current issues and challenges such as waste management, climate change, water and air pollution, and food security. These four dimensions are the most discussed in current decade. After this, participants will be introduced on the environmental assessment tool, environmental policies and regulations adopted in the country and also globally. Finally, sustainable management through circular economy and renewable energy, blue economy, green economy and green technology are introduced to allow participants to design appropriate ways to mitigate current issues and challenges.
